Murray has been active in the field of illustration for almost half a century. During that period of time, he has been awarded countless honors by his peers. These include Gold Medals from The Society of Illustrators, The Art Directors Club of New York, The Society of Publication Designers and the Westchester AD-Club. He has been named Artist of the Year by the Artists Guild of New York, The High School of Art & Design, and The United States Sports Academy. Murray has also received many awards in the field of education such as the 1999 Distinguished Educator in the Arts award from the Society of Illustrators in New York and the 2001 Faculty Service Citation from Syracuse University. Murray has prepared a slide lecture that chronicles his long and successful career in illustration. Examples of his influences, his early work and the evolution of his signature style, (intricately crosshatched, pen and ink) are explored. His discussion of self-motivated projects along with assignments encourages the audience to always challenge their own creative energy. Images from his high profile award winning series such as the Bestiary, Mechanimals, Rodeo, Pow-Wow, Autos of the 50's, and Biker projects are featured. Later works also included in this presentation are his baseball drawings and limited edition prints of great moments of "The National Pastime." This presentation is a carefully constructed, highly educational, slide show that examines the relationships of style, technique and subject matter. All presentations are given with two projectors running simultaneously, and go for approximately ninety minutes, including a question and answer period with the audience.
